Churches & Temples

Plovdiv is a city with deep spiritual roots, where different religions and cultures have coexisted for centuries. This heritage is reflected in the variety of churches and religious landmarks located throughout the historic and central parts of the city.

Among the most significant Orthodox churches are St. Constantine and Helena Church, St. Marina Cathedral, St. Nedelya Church, and St. Dimitar Church in the Old Town. The Catholic community is represented by St. Louis Cathedral, situated near the Main Street.

The city’s spiritual landscape is further enriched by the Dzhumaya Mosque, one of the oldest Ottoman mosques in the Balkans, located next to the Roman Stadium and still functioning today. Together, these landmarks present Plovdiv as a place of historical continuity, tolerance, and cultural diversity.

Beyond the city

For guests wishing to explore further, the Bachkovo Monastery, located a short drive from Plovdiv, is one of Bulgaria’s most important spiritual and historical sites and a highly recommended excursion outside the city.
